Measuring Success from National CleanUp Month with AllSeasons PR

September was National CleanUp Month, and as my neighbor Elaine and I walked through our neighborhood on the final weekend of the month, we were amazed to find quite an assortment of littler along the way. Between the two of us, we filled one large trash bag. Based on volume alone, that was good – meaning it was relatively little for the distance we walked, wearing our masks and gloves.

Still, we collected many cigarette butts (lots on the playground!), some discarded COVID19 masks (a big no-no), crushed plastic bottles, plastic bottle tops, plastic bags, tennis can lids, candy and snack wrappers, and busted balloons and streamers.“What are you doing?” one man asked as we passed his house. “We’re participating in National Clean UpDay.” “Oh, how nice,” said his wife. “I’ve heard about it,” said another woman, walking with her little boys. “Maybe we’ll join next year.” “I wanna help, too!” said her seven-year old.

“Thank you for doing what I’m not able to do,” said one of my cousins.

Our mission that day was not only to contribute to a cleaner neighborhood but also to raise consciousness about what individuals can do to protect the environment right where they live.

Our contribution to the overall effort was a figurative drop in the bucket. Collectively, joining the National CleanUp efforts, we made our world just a little bit cleaner and safer.

People can join any time; there’s no need to wait for next September. If your kids need to earn community service points for school, this is a great way to do it.

If you need supplies, you can order a kit from Planet Oat. Or use your own supplies as we did. Whatever you collect, please dispose of responsibly.

All PlanetOat CleanUp kits include several bags, a pair of tongs, and hand sanitizer gel.
